Rev. Dr. Leamon E. Brown, a native of Anniston, Alabama, is the son of the late Rev. L.B. Brown and Winnie Brown. After graduating from Cobb Avenue High School, he journeyed to Salisbury, North Carolina, to attend Livingstone College. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Welfare. Being reared in the Christian church, he accepted the call to the ministry. He was licensed to preach at Mount Liberty Baptist Church in Anniston, Alabama, in 1971.
Remaining in Salisbury, North Carolina, he joined and became an active member of First Calvary Baptist Church. He participated in the Youth Church, Baptist Training, and Gospel Choir. He served as Assistant Pastor at First Calvary Baptist Church in 1978 and, after being ordained by the Rowan Baptist Association in 1980, he worked as Interim Pastor from 1980 to 1984. He was formally installed as Pastor at First Calvary Baptist Church on July 1, 1984. Over 45 years and a half, he spent his time in service and primary leadership at First Calvary Baptist Church.
In addition to the ministry, Dr. Brown had a stellar career as a faculty member of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College for twelve years. Before becoming a faculty member at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, he served for twenty years as coordinator of the college's GED program. He was also an influential academic advisor. He later received a Master of Divinity from Hood Theological Seminary and a Master of Arts degree in Liberal Studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Dr. Brown received his Doctor of Ministry degree at Hood Theological Seminary on May 19, 2018.
Dr. Brown is passionate about community outreach, and his involvement in various organizations and causes has been paramount in his ministry. He has been involved in the Salisbury Ministerial Alliance, the local Salisbury-Rowan Chapter of the NAACP, and served as 2nd Vice President of the Rowan Baptist Association Baptist Training Union. He has also served on the boards of Rowan Helping Ministries, the Salisbury-Rowan Community Service Council, the InterDenominational Ministers Fellowship of Salisbury (IMF), and F.A.C.T. (Families and Communities Together). It is his quest to strengthen the family unit, end community violence, save at-risk youth, and engage in various outreach ministries to fulfill the Great Commission.
He has been married for 49 years to Beatrice J. Grasty Brown. She has worked tirelessly by his side during his ministerial journey. They are the proud parents of two adult children, Leah (deceased) and Lemuel, and one grandson, Eli.
